Only The Best Vampire Names Wanted
Modern vampire names don't have to always be dark and exotic. Though there are many examples of gothic-inspired names matched to memorable literary and cinematic members of the undead, they often just stem from names that were popular when that character was turned. While a unique vampire name can make a character memorable, their actions and personality are even more important.
My motivation for compiling the list of vampire names below comes from being a novice writer of short horror fiction. It really is nice to have something to reference so you don't have to spend hours on end trying to come up with that perfect name. Though this was written with storytellers in mind, I'm sure that anyone looking for gothic, dark, or spooky names (for whatever reason) will find this list somewhat useful. Ancient Vampire Names - Elizabeth Bathory: The Blood Countess
One of the more frightening real-life vampire-like characters in history was Elizabeth Bathory (or Bathory Erzsebet in her native Hungarian). Erzsebet, when translated from the Hungarian, roughly means "mercy of god." This just goes to show that any name, no matter how cute or how noble its origins, can be stained by someone who does very bad things.

The Vampire Club by Voltaire
I would absolutely love it if a vampire club or bar like this existed in real life. You could probably compare it a little bit to The Bronze in the Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV show back from 1997. Coming up for a good name for the vampire club would be a true exercise as you wouldn't want one too corny (like Fangtasia); you would also want one that sounded inviting to all the creatures of the night.

Vampirella: The Best Vampire Name Ever!
With a great vampire name like Vampirella, you'd think this character would have a really good movie to go along with all the excellent printed comics she has, but alas not yet. I will admit that I was first drawn to this title because of the beauty and sexuality of the lead character, but the more I read, the more I realized that there is a lot of history to Vampi than I first realized. After reading her first appearance, you can really tell that the character was really well thought (and fleshed) out. Still waiting for that really good movie, though.

Vlad the Impaler: The Real-Life Dracula
Ancient vampire names don't get any more ancient than the name Vlad. This Wallachian ruler of the mid 1400's is considered one of the most important rulers of the region and a national hero of Romania. His viciousness in battle and cruelty in the way he dealt with prisoners soon gave him the nickname of Vlad the Impaler. Though his methods were thought of as overkill, they helped protect his country and his people from invasion, slavery, and death.

Watch Lots of Great Vampire Movies To Come Up With the Best Vampire Names
Over the years, I've come to realize that movie vampire names often sound a lot scarier if the vampire has a normal first name paired with a cool sounding last name. Take Jerry Dandrige from the 1985 vampire flick Fright Night. Jerry alone doesn't sound intimidating at all, but when paired with Dandrige, you've got some serious goosebumps. Of course, the charismatic (and vicious) nature of the character also makes him quite unforgettable as well. I've always been of the mind that either one of the first or last names must be a bit exotic or edgy to make it more memorable to the audience.
